The Hidden Palm Spring: Kantakuyan Hidden Spring





Away from the busy streets of the city of Cebu lies a hidden spring that will surely quench our body thirst brought by the summer.





Kantakuyan, Tabuelan – one of the places in Cebu known for its eco-tourism spots. Many tourists come and go to this part of the city. There is the famous Maravilla beach resort in Maravilla, Tabuelan Cebu. But alongside the road, before you reach their famous beach resorts, there is a hidden freshwater spring located at Sitio Kantakuyan. Its crystal clear water will surely tease you to climb down the waters. The natural coldness of the water will surely quench your body from the heat of the summer sunshine. Local people use it for washing laundry while their children are busy playing in pool-like water. Even though many locals go there for washing, still, the waters are clean and clear because it is flowing freshwater. Locals said people back then fetch water there for drinking. The surroundings are clean and maintained and you won’t be afraid to go down into the water because both sides of the spring are cemented with the support of the local government unit. You can dip your body in 4 feet high water. When it is not too crowded you can enjoy swimming while socializing with the locals doing their laundry. On the further side of the spring is a pile of palm trees with an estimated two feet deep water where you can enjoy picture-taking with friends and family. You don’t have to worry about visiting the place because the people in the area are very hospitable and friendly. Many motorists and cyclists stop by in the area just to relax on the shady and cool side of the spring.

How to get there?

The area is not hard to locate since it is just alongside the road. When you want to go visit the place using a private vehicle just google map the area and it will guide you to your destination. If you want to take a public vehicle, go to the New Cebu North Bus Terminal located at the back of sm city Cebu. Ride a Ceres bus bound for Tabuelan-Tuburan route or an IndayMimi minibus bound for San Remegio and ask the conductor to stop you at Kantakuyan spring. You will enjoy the three-hour ride going to your destination since the views of the Northern part of Cebu is very picturesque.



How much would it cost there?

There is not much cost when you get there since the destination is free of entrance fee for all locals and tourists who want to experience the coldness of the spring. There are cottages for rent in the vicinity. You can bring your table and chairs if you want since there is enough space atop of the spring. Others bring a tent for relaxation under the shady trees. The bus fare from Cebu north bus to Tabuelan is around 150-200 philippine peso. Once you get down from the bus, a less than 5-minute hike to the destination is needed and you will enjoy the place.
